MAKING MY CALLING AND ELECTION SURE

“While God’s choice…is firm and certain in God (2 Tim2:19), it may not always be obvious to the individual Christian.  Assurance of God’s call comes through the evidence of the Holy Spirit’s work in our lives (1 John 3:10,14) as well as through the internal testimony of the Spirit in our hearts (Gal 4:6)” (ref#56, p1821, [2 Pet 1:10]).

FATHER, because I am so prone to forget spiritual facts—even forget that I have been cleansed from my sins (2 Pet 1:9), I know I need to be attentive to spiritual knowledge daily. Assurance comes when I routinely satisfy my conscience that I am still Your child.

The Apostle Peter suggests how I can acquire the divine nature that proves I’m GOD’s child:  “…supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love”(2 Pet 1:5-7 ESV).

“Set your minds, then, on endorsing by your conduct the fact that God has called and chosen you. If you go along these lines there is no reason why you should stumble.  Indeed if you live this sort of life a rich welcome awaits you as you enter the eternal kingdom of our Lord and saviour Jesus Christ”  (2 Pet 1:10-11 PHILLIPS).
