HOW DOES JESUS SPEAK?

FATHER, I thank You for the SPIRIT, who impresses ____ with the words of JESUS through the Bible and then illuminates those very words in the Bible. You do not speak to (him/her) through one without the other (ref#119, p51).

“According to Jesus, the Holy Spirit would first lead the disciples to remember and record His teaching in what we call the New Testament. Then He would guide Christ’s followers into increasing knowledge of the truth on the basis of that written revelation” James Montgomery Boice (ref#119, p31).

FATHER, prohibit ____ from courting the desire to search through the Bible for some precept to obey. Instead, guide (him/her) to making (his/her) life be so in touch with You that the HOLY SPIRIT can continually bring some word from JESUS and apply it to (his/her) circumstances (ref#118, p16).

SICKNESS Life Threatening

[The majority of our prayers concern physical health. We all know someone who is dealing with a life-ending disease. Here is an opportunity to pray for them. Fill their name in the blanks.]

A LIMIT TO SICKNESS

“The ultimate end of sickness is restrained, and beyond which it cannot go….Wisdom hangs up the thermometer at the furnace mouth, and regulates the heat” Charles Spurgeon (ref#34, Aug 17th PM).

GOD, You will provide for ____ as You did for Elijah. “You shall drink from the brook, and I have commanded the ravens to feed you there’” (1 Kings 17:4 ESV). You will provide for ____ as You did for Zarephath. “The jar of flour was not spent, neither did the jug of oil become empty, according to the word of the Lord…” (1 Kings 17:16 ESV).

GENERAL TRIBULATION

[We all can think of a Christian sister or brother experiencing so much affliction they may not be able to pray for themselves. Here’s an opportunity to pray for them. Fill their name in the blanks.]

ARMOR OF GOD

Help (him/her) clothe (himself/herself) with the breastplate of righteousness (Eph 6:14)—that is the sinless righteousness of CHRIST, full of power—power like You FATHER, exerted in raising CHRIST from the dead (Gal 1:1).

Help ____ sandal (his/her) feet with a firm foundation in the Gospel (Eph 6:15) by preaching it to (himself/herself) every day making it as much of a reality as the physical world (he/she) sees.

Cause (him/her) to remember to hold in front of (him/her) the shield of faith (Eph 6:16,17) and prod (him/her) to put on the helmet of (his/her) assurance of salvation.

Propel (him/her) to wield the sword of the SPIRIT that is Your infallible Word (Eph 6:17). (His/Her) shield, (his/her) helmet, (his/her) sword—surely this in where (he/she) will find (his/her) strength.

With all this armor that You, SUFFICIENT ONE, provide, (he/she) should be more than able to stand saying, “He who is in me is greater than he who is in the world” (1 John 4:4).

NON CHRISTIAN Pursuers

[We all have friends and family that sit in our churches but only act like they are Christians. It is up to us to pray for their salvation. Here’s an opportunity to pray for them. Fill their name in the blanks.]

EMBRACING SELF-MADE RELIGION IN IGNORANCE

screen-shot-2017-01-28-at-3-40-37-pm…FATHER, “Let not those…who are amiable, moral, attractive, fall short of heaven at last;…” (ref#76, p113). Good is the enemy of the best. Sin can produce death through what is good (Rom 7:13).

I know ____, for like (him/her) I have, in times past, suppressed the truth as (he/she) is presently doing (Rom 1:18). I knew about You but choose to conduct my life the way I thought to be satisfying to You. And, in so doing worshipped and served me, the creature, rather than the Creator (Rom 1:25). And, in so doing did not honor You or give You thanks (Rom 1:21). It made sense to choose how to show my support, but yet my conscience caused suffering; I felt Your accountability for the wrongs I had done (ref#56, p1613 [Mankind’s Guilty Knowledge of God]).

I pray ____ not smother or quench (his/her) awareness of You. I pray You lead (him/her) to a broad place where (he/she) can see (his/her) ignorance—that is the ignorance of (his/her) own choosing of how to be a Christian.

FATHER, suppress (his/her) human wisdom and give (him/her) enough faith to long for, above all else, a relationship with You. Draw ____ right out of (himself/herself) and (his/her) thinking. Give (him/her) a peaceful conscience that (he/she) may know You have forgiven (him/her) and desire close fellowship with (him/her).

“Grant that the promising appearances of a tender conscience, soft heart, the alarms and delights of thy Word, be not finally blotted out, but bring forth judgment unto victory in all whom I love” The Valley of Vision (ref#76, p113).

NON CHRISTIAN, Resisters

[We all have friends and family that do not want anything to do with Christianity so it is up to us to pray for their salvation. Here’s an opportunity to pray for them. Fill their name in the blanks.]

FELIX-LIKE

screen-shot-2017-02-20-at-4-01-20-pm“As Paul continued to insist on right relations with God and his people, about a life of moral discipline and the coming Judgment, Felix felt things getting a little too close for comfort and dismissed him….” (Acts 24:25 MSG).

FATHER, I watch ____ divert (his/her) attention from You whenever Your names comes up in conversation. I have to say affliction and prosperity have alike failed to turn ____ toward CHRIST. Tears and prayers and sermons have, so far, been wasted on (his/her) barren heart (ref#34, Dec 31st AM).

There must be something of You that ____ disapproves of otherwise (he/she) would not be hindered from acknowledging Your authority (Matt 13:57). (He/She) goes on hardening (his/her) heart when (he/she) puts CHRIST to the test for the purpose of approving Him (Heb 3:7-9). CHRIST does not meet (his/her) specifications as Messiah (Luke 9:22) because (he/she) does not yet have an experiential knowledge of Him (Heb 3:10).

Pride makes ____ critical of Your activities, FATHER. I hear (him/her) criticizing, disagreeing and correcting things of You (ref#124, p118).

Thus, I long to see (him/her) approach You with teachable humility (ref#124, p119). I long to see ____ great in Your kingdom.

“Unless you reverse your present trend of thought and become as the little children, in no case shall you enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, he who is of such a nature as to humble himself like this little child, esteeming himself small inasmuch as he is so, thus thinking truly, and because truly, therefore humbly of himself, this person is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven”  Kenneth S. ASKING FOR THE SPIRIT

Keep on reverently knocking, and it shall be opened to you….how much…will Your Father …in heaven give the Holy Sprit to those who ask Him for Him to be given” (ref#37, p163, [Luke 11:9,10,13]).

FATHER, I pray for ____, that (he/she) continue pleading for the HOLY SPIRIT—that (he/she) become sensitive to the requirement of constant asking. Incite (him/her) to grasp the concept of how vital He is in (his/her) life.

“As God’s children, we have already received the Spirit. But, we still need to ask and pray for His special gifts and operations as we require them. And not only this, but for Himself to take complete and entire possession; for His unceasing momentary guidance” Andrew Murray (ref#19, SEVENTH LESSON).

FATHER, Your SPIRIT is not general or bland with His words of instruction. He will inspire ____ immediately. Favor (him/her), O LORD, to instantly know it is the SPIRIT’s words that has entered (his/her) mind.

I read of the SPIRIT in Acts and marvel at His clearness and specifics. His comfort sets the ones He dwells in apart (Acts 9:31). Set ____ apart today with the blessing of Your SPIRIT.

GENERAL SICKNESS

HEALING – FORETASTE TO THE ETERNAL KINGDOM

screen-shot-2017-01-02-at-4-10-47-pm…FATHER, the summary in all my prayers is true Christian maturity (2 Cor 13:9). Healing is not only a peek into Your spiritual kingdom, but a precursor of a greater miracle and that is the salvation You offer through CHRIST (ref#56, p1512). Healing gives opportunity to share an even greater miracle—Your salvation.

Jesus shows Your kingdom; no more sickness is part of Your kingdom; this is the reason JESUS heals. His method of ministry is mercy. His show of healing is to reverse the fall, not to reverse death. The purpose of healing is to bring Christlikeness and means always to produced holiness.

“God’s ultimate purpose is to secure the eternal health of the one who is sick. Whether the illness is a consequence of unconfessed sin or unhealed disease, the ultimate aim of the healing prayer is the spiritual security of the sick person whom God will ‘save’ and ‘raise up’” Bryan Chapell (ref#66, p59).

FATHER, I defer to You. Perform the perfect healing by raising ____ up to immortality with You, or instigate the imperfect healing of repairing ____’s mortal body on earth for a time (ref#66, p60). I acknowledge no medicine or miracle will benefit ____ apart from Your power (ref#66, p59).

REASONS FOR AFFLICTION – TO RECOGNIZE HOPE

If Your laws are not ____’s delight, (he/she) will perish in (his/her) affliction (Ps 119:92). LORD, keep ____ in Your grasp so (he/she) never forgets Your precepts, for in them You have given (him/her) life (Ps 119:93). Let Your steadfast love comfort ____ according to Your promise to (him/her) (Ps 119:76).

FATHER, though You slay ____, continue to provide for (his/her) strength to hope in You (Job 13:15). I know that because (he/she) is Yours, You will not let (him/her) fall away no matter how well or how badly (he/she) reacts to (his/her) situation or how horrific the situation. Because of (his/her) hope (he/she) will wait in silence for You (Ps 62:5). This is the way (he/she) will bring You honor.

FATHER, Your thundering breakers crash and crush ____ (Ps 42:7). Promise, FATHER, to love (him/her) all day and sing songs to (him/her) at night (Ps 42:8). Help (him/her) find the way to Your sacred mountain—to the place of Your presence (Ps 43:3). Allow (him/her) to enter the place of worship and meet face to face with You (Ps 43:4).

BACKSLIDER’S ACTIVITY TOWARD GOD

And when the Lion of Judah roars (he/she) will come running (Hos 11:10). You are gracious and merciful and will not turn away Your face from ____ if (he/she) returns to You (2 Chron 30:9).

Since ____, as a backslider, is filled with (his/her) own ways, it is not easy to awaken (his/her) interests again in CHRIST. “It is always difficult to reach (his/her) conscience” W.P. Lockhart (ref#127, Prov 14:14, “Backslider in Heart”).

“Argument does not succeed. The only thing to do is to bring them back to their first experience. They must come to Jesus afresh” W.P. Lockhart (ref#127, Prov 14:14, “Backslider in Heart”).

“Thus says the Lord: Stand by the roads and look; and ask for the eternal paths, where the good, old way is; then walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls….” (Jer 6:16 AMP).

The same exercise of grace is required as at (his/her) conversion—repentance. I pray that ____ come to CHRIST as (he/she) did at first. Give (him/her) FATHER, a word from You—a word powerful enough to astonish (him/her), chasing all fear away (ref#34, Oct 31st AM).

“No one can be renewed without as real and true a manifestation of the Holy Spirit’s energy as he felt at first, because the work is as great, and flesh and blood are as much in the way now as they ever were” Charles Spurgeon (ref#34, Oct 31st AM).

FATHER, manifest Your holiness to ____ (Ezek 20:41) so (he/she) will remember all (his/her) evil deeds and how they have defiled (him/her). Quicken (him/her) to loath (himself/herself) for all the sin (he/she) have committed (Ezek 20:43). I pray (he/she) break up (his/her) fallow ground and seek You that You may come and rain righteousness again upon (him/her).

Deal with (him/her) for Your name’s sake. I want to recognize You in ____’s life again. I want to know that You are the LORD (Ezek 20:44).

FEAR

“O Lord, when I weigh Your worthiness against my unworthiness, I tremble,…” Thomas a’Kempis (ref#147, p274).

screen-shot-2016-12-15-at-11-55-39-amFATHER, Your eye is upon ____, You guard (him/her) from danger, You have ample ability to deliver and save (him/her) (ref#16, [Ps 33:18]). You are the only one Who can deliver (him/her) from death, therefore, I beseech You to teach ____ to wait in fear of You.

JESUS left His throne and became a helpless babe. Urge ____ to leave (his/her) independency and become as helpless as CHRIST, for His delight was in the fear of You (Isa 11:3). ____ cannot experience the delight CHRIST will give (him/her) if (he/she) is not helpless.

____’s fear of You, FATHER, will increase each time You rescue (him/her). I pray ____ discover Your joyous fear as (he/she) experiences the wonderment of Your actions—actions that cannot be explained or predicted or actions of the internal nature like the tax collector Matthew giving up his lucrative business to follow CHRIST.

O LORD, let Your steadfast love be upon ____ (Ps 33:22). Your majesty should make (him/her) afraid; (his/her) awe of You should restrain (him/her) (Job 13:11). Keep ____ listening to the thunder of Your voice and the rumblings that come from Your mouth (Job 37:2). For the fear of You is a sacrifice of reverence continually ascending to You (ref#68, [Isa 11:3]).
