PRELUDE TO PRAYER

Prayer Facts:

“…don’t hunt for a feeling in prayer. Deep in our psyches we want an experience with God or an experience in prayer. Once we make that our quest, we lose God. You don’t experience God; you get to know him. You submit to him. You enjoy him. He is, after all, a person”  Paul E. Miller (ref#62, p21).

Reasons for Waiting for GOD:

Because You dwell in the high and holy place, but with him also who is of a thoroughly penitent and humble spirit bruised with sorrow for sin (Isa 57:15), I will wait for You.

Because You have loved me with an everlasting love, and with loving-kindness have drawn me and continue Your faithfulness to me (Jer 31:3), I will wait for You.

Prayer Facts:

“Conformity, to live one with God, is a far higher and more divine life than to live simply in submission to God. To pray in conformity—together with God—is a far higher and more divine way to pray than mere submission” E. M. Bounds (ref#54, p51,52).

Reasons for Waiting for GOD:

Because You lift up the humble and downtrodden (Ps 147:6), I will wait for You.

Because You deliver the afflicted in their affliction and open their ears to Your voice in adversity (Job 36:15), I will wait for You.

Because You set on high those who are lowly, and those who mourn You lift to safety (Job 5:11), I will wait for You.

Because You have delivered and drawn me to yourself out of the control and dominion of darkness and transformed me into the kingdom of the Son You love (Col 1:13), I will wait for You.

Prayer Facts:

“…there are burdens placed on us by God which He does not intend to lift off, He wants us to roll them back on Him….the burden is lightened by the sense of companionship. Never disassociate yourself from the burden” Oswald Chambers (ref#7, April 13th).

Reasons for Waiting for GOD:

Because in CHRIST I have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of my trespasses (Eph 1:7), therefore I will wait for You.

Because in CHRIST I am set free from the law of sin and death and given the law of the Spirit of life (Rom 8:2), therefore I will wait for You.

Because in CHRIST I am a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come (2 Cor 5:17), therefore I will wait for You.

Because in CHRIST neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate me from His love (Rom 8:38,39), therefore I will wait for You.

Prayer Facts:

“The spirit of the world is the great hindrance to the Spirit of prayer.  All our most earnest calls to men to pray more will be vain unless this evil is acknowledged and combated and overcome. The believer and the Church must be entirely freed from the spirit of the world….It is only through death to the world that we can be freed from its spirit….In Christ it was the crucifixion spirit and death that was the source of the intercession Spirit and power. With us it can be no other way either” Andrew Murray (ref#143, p118).

Reasons for Waiting for GOD:

Because You are God of gods and Lord of lords, the great, the mighty, the terrible God, Who is not partial and does not take bribes (Deut 10:17), I will wait for You.

Because You are acquainted with and understand the heart (Acts 15:8), I will wait for You.

Because You preserve the way of Your saints (Prov 2:8), I will wait for You.

Because You guard the feet of Your godly ones (1 Sam 2:9), I will wait for You.

Prayer Facts:

“The high and lofty One that inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy, who is the Creator and Governor of all worlds, who bears up the pillars of the universe, and to whom all the powers in heaven, in earth, and in hell are subject, is the glorious object to whom we address ourselves in prayer” Octavius Winslow (ref#61. April 26th).

Reasons for Waiting for GOD:

Because with You are perfect wisdom and might and You alone have true understanding (Job 12:13), I will wait for You.

Prayer Facts:

“No sacrifice which a lover would make for his beloved is too great for us to make for our enemy….if we pray for them, we are taking their distress and poverty, their guilt and perdition upon ourselves, and pleading to God for them. We are doing vicariously for them what they cannot do for themselves” Dietrich Bonhoeffer (ref#10, p148-150).

Reasons for Waiting for GOD:

Because You formed my inward parts and knitted me together in my mother’s womb (Ps 139:13), I will wait for You.

Because You search me thoroughly and know me (Ps 139:1), I will wait for You.

Because You understand my thoughts and are acquainted with all my ways (Ps 139:2-3), I will wait for You.

Prayer Facts:

“…His [CHRIST’s] mediation on the throne is as real and indispensable as on the cross….it engages all His time and powers, is His unceasing occupation at the right hand of the Father. And we participate not only in the benefits of this His work, but in the work itself….” Andrew Murray (ref#19, TWENTY-SIXTH LESSON) (brackets mine).

Reasons for Waiting for GOD:

Because in CHRIST the whole fullness of Deity continues to dwell in bodily form giving complete expression of the divine nature (Col 2:9), I will wait for You.
