The Divine Weapons of Warfare – The Shield of Faith
“…faith is an inclination of the soul to seek help from Christ…It looks to the virtue of another. It looks to the strength of another. It looks to the wisdom of another. It is entirely other-directed and other-dependent….it is attached to Another from whom it gets all its reality” (ref#124, p54).
O LORD, lead ____ to meditate on the faith You have been pleased to give (him/her). It is Your grace that preserves and renders active all Your truth, appropriately making faith (his/her) shield to protect (his/her) entire body in the battle (Eph 6:16).
The fiery darts the enemy hurls at (him/her) are evil thoughts and injections to inflame (his/her) passions and excite (his/her) soul to acts of transgression. Even though the darts of evil thoughts pass through ____’s mind, they can be caught by (his/her) shield of faith and need never remain in (his/her) mind long enough to excite (his/her) natural passions.
Help ____ consciously turn (his/her) thoughts elsewhere. You are able to make (his/her) shield of faith as impenetrable as flint (ref#15, [Eph 6:16]) when (he/she) reviews all (he/she) is in You.
“Jesus replied, This is the work (service) that God asks of you: that you believe in the One Whom He has sent [that you cleave to, trust, rely on, and have faith in His Messenger]” (John 6:29 AMP).
“Stress and anxiety seem easier. Easier to let a mind run wild with the worry than to exercise discipline, to reign her in, slip the blinders on and train her to walk steady in certain assurance, not spooked by the specters looming ahead” (ref#130, p147).
FATHER, I pray ____ be purposeful in keeping (his/her) gaze fixed on You. Impress upon (him/her) that stress and worry indicate (he/she) has chosen the lazy way. Admonish (him/her) to seek Your energy to employ (his/her) shield of faith (ref#130, p147).
