CONFESSION

A MEASURE OF DILIGENCE IS PLACED UPON ME

…FATHER, I live in unbroken fellowship with You in CHRIST JESUS (Rom 6:11). Your divine power has granted me life and godliness and I am a sharer of Your divine nature (2 Pet 1:3-4).

With such bestowment a measure of diligence is placed upon me to keep myself from falling away. I am not to willfully run into temptation, or expose myself to the power of the enemy (ref#61, Oct 4th). I must put my energies into keeping myself holy by letting CHRIST keep me holy.

You have chosen me for salvation. That is the end. But the means to that end is sanctification. Sanctification is accomplished by the operation of the Holy Spirit and by faith on my part; “faith and holiness must be joined together” Matthew Henry’s Commentary on the Whole Bible (ref#18, [2 Thes 2:13]).

So You, FATHER, throw a measure of responsibility upon me. You charge me to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live a self-controlled, upright, and godly life (Titus 2:12).

Since I was bought with a price, it becomes my desire to glorify You in my body (1 Cor 6:19-20). You, FATHER, through CHRIST has caused me to be born again to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven (1 Pet 1:3-4).

Let that cheering prospect keep me from slothfulness, unwatchful-ness, and prayerlessness. Encourage me FATHER, to work out my own salvation cheerfully by leaning entirely on You (Phil 2:12).

THE EARTH IS FILLED WITH THE LORD

The time is coming when,

the earth shall be filled with Your knowledge—

filled with the awareness of Your glory,

as the waters cover the sea (Hab 2:14).

Though You are high, You regard the lowly,

Your right hand delivers me.

Though I walk in the midst of trouble (Ps 138:6-7),

You will fulfill Your purpose for me (Ps 138:8).

You LORD will surely save me;

So I will play my songs on instruments

all the days of my life

at Your house, LORD (Isa 38:20).

GOD, You are light and in You is no darkness (1 John 1:5).

You alone have immortality,

dwelling in unapproachable light,

to whom be honor and everlasting power (1 Tim 6:16).

PRELUDE OF PRAYER

Prayer Facts:

You don’t need self-discipline to pray continuously; you just need to be poor in spirit” Paul E. Miller (ref#62, p65).

Reasons for Waiting for GOD:

Because You keep covenant, loving-kindness, and mercy for those who love You and keep Your commandments (Neh 1:5), I will wait for You.

Because You do not withdraw Your eyes from me (Job 36:7), I will wait for You.

Because You open my ears to instruction and discipline (Job 36:10), I will wait for You.

Because You give songs of rejoicing in the night (Job 35:10), I will wait for You.

SUPPLICATION

GENERAL TRIBULATION

[We all can think of a Christian sister or brother experiencing so much affliction they may not be able to pray for themselves. Here’s an opportunity to pray for them. Fill their name in the blanks.]

SUFFERING COMES WITHIN AS WELL AS WITHOUT

“Yes, this anguish was good for me, for you have rescued me from death and forgiven all my sins” (Isa 38:17 NLT).

FATHER, suffering comes in two forms: within—“the apparent desertion of the Bridegroom which is the most agonizing of the soul’s sufferings, and without, the persecuting malice of men and devils” Madame Guyon (ref#128, p442).

____ knows, O LORD, that Your rules are righteous (Ps 119:75) and (he/she) is not. Can You treat (him/her) more cruelly than (he/she) deserves? Never, (he/she) is never smitten as harshly as (his/her) sins deserve (ref#34, April 30, AM).

You, FATHER, have afflicted ____ in faithfulness. (Ps 119:75). But, LORD, see to (his/her) suffering within for it is most debilitating.

In ____’s despondency remove (his/her) anxious thoughts and forebodings, grant (him/her) a glad heart that has a continual feast regardless of circumstances (Prov 15:15). Make (him/her) delight in Your law so (he/she) will not perish in this affliction (Ps 119:92). You who make ____ see many troubles and calamities will revive (him/her) again (Ps 71:20).

Now that (he/she) lives among bitterness and crosses and is prostrate under a load of trouble and affliction, instill within (him/her) that (he/she) comes closest to being “all fair” in the Bridegroom’s eyes. In suffering (he/she) is “all fair” and there is no spot or deformity in (him/her) (ref#128, p 439-440, [Song 4:7])

Suffering scours out ____’s harsh, unyielding, bounded and limited nature that stands in the way of (his/her) happiness. This present suffering is not (his/her) fault nor is it offensive in Your sight; “it is simply a natural defect, derived from Adam, which (his/her) Bridegroom will insensibly take away” (ref#128, p440, [Song 4:7]). This circumstance may destroy (his/her) beauty in the eyes of people around (him/her), but (his/her) Bridegroom is most pleased for ____ has no longer any comeliness of (his/her) own. In CHRIST’s eyes through this suffering (he/she) has become possessed of true beauty (ref#128, p440, [Song 4:7]). In His time, CHRIST will “reanimate this annihilated soul” Madame Guyon (ref#128, p446, [Song 4:16]) and ____ will become His perfect bride.

UNTENABLE

FATHER, You are unflinching;

You do not yield but are steadfast and resolute (ref#110, p1457).

You are unrumpled.

You do not become disheveled (ref#110, p1463).

You are unrivaled—having no equal;

You are matchless, peerless (ref#110, p1462).

You are the utmost—

the greatest that is possible (ref#110, p1470).

You, LORD, are untenable;

You cannot be maintained or defeated (ref#110, p1464).

You are uppermost,

having the highest place and position (ref#110, p1466).

You are enthroned above the cherubim;

GOD of all the kingdoms of the earth— (Isa 37:16-17).

possessor of all power and authority (ref#110, p1466)

You are GOD, You alone— (Isa 37:16).

CONFESSION

UNCONSCIOUS USEFULNESS

…FATHER, caution me against my human nature that is so set on being consistent and useful to You. As long as I’m choosing the way to glorify You, You are not glorified. Governing my activities is a sure indication that I am not pleasing You (ref#7, May 18th).

I know that love is not premeditated but spontaneous. “We do not set the statements of Jesus in front of us as a standard; but when His Spirit is having His way with us, we live according to His standard without knowing it” Oswald Chambers (ref#7, April 30th).

“If we try to prove to God how much we love Him, it is a sure sign that we do not love Him. The evidence of our love for Him is the absolute spontaneity of our love…” Oswald Chambers (ref#7, April 30th).

FATHER, I pray for the spontaneity loving You brings. No wonder CHRIST gave over half of His example prayer (the Lord’s Prayer) to adoration and thanks (Matt 6:9-13) to You; He was reacting to Your love.

GOD ALL-SUFFICIENT

“KING OF GLORY,

DIVINE MAJESTY,

Every perfection adorns thy nature

and sustains thy throne;

“The heavens and earth are thine,

The world is thine and its fullness.

Thy power created the universe from nothing;

Thy wisdom has managed all its multiple concerns,…” The Valley of Vision (ref#76, p216).

Thy goodness is unlimited;

so I will wait on thee.

I have everything supplied by thee,

and I am satisfied in thee (ref# 76, p 216).

“GLORIOUS GOD,

It is the flame of my life to worship thee,

the crown and glory of my soul to adore thee.”

It is “…heavenly pleasure to approach thee…” The Valley of Vision (ref#76, p196).

Give me thy Spirit to help me worship,

that I may overlook the world—

so You can bring me into fullness of life—

that I may be refreshed, reassured and set apart (ref#76, p196).

DIVINE MAJESTY,

Every perfection

adorns thy nature…” The Valley of Vision (ref# 76, p 216).

PRELUDE TO PRAYER

Prayer Facts:

“Prayer is asking and knocking at a door for something we have not, which we desire, and which God has promised to us” E.M. Bounds (ref#54, p182).

Reasons for Waiting for GOD:

Because Your breath gives life (Job 33:4), I will wait for You.

Because You form the spirit of man within him (Zech 12:1), I will wait for You.

Because You teach me more than the beasts of the earth and make me wiser than the birds of the heaven (Job 35:11), I will wait for You.

Because You do great things and unsearchable, marvelous things without number (Job 5:9), I will wait for You.
