REGNANT

You are the blessed and only Sovereign (1 Tim 6:15),

regnant—greatest in power

You are predominant—

reigning and ruling (ref#110, p1130).

You do according to Your will (Dan 4:35)—

bringing into effect things automatically—

without further provision being made.

You are self-executing (ref#110, p1218).

None can stay Your hand, O LORD (Dan 4:35).

You are unconstricted—

no one can hold You,

or limit or restrict You (ref#110, p1453).

You are King of kings (1 Tim 6:15).

You outmatch; You outdo (ref#110, p961).

You are the superpower (ref#110, p1344).

For You are LORD of lords (1 Tim 6:15).

CONFESSION

MY RESPONSIBILITY IN SANCTIFICATION

…FATHER, I praise You for giving to me the weapons that can triumph over satan—precisely Your Son and the SPIRIT. Though they overcome, it is necessary that I be responsible.

You, FATHER, make me “holy in the sense of innocence.” My responsibility is to participate in making my character into a holy character by a series of moral choices (ref#7, Sept 8th). I am inclined to cater to my undisciplined nature and many times attribute my failures to satan’s influence when the problem is my unwillingness to restrain myself.

I must strengthen myself to not submit to actions that stem from my physical condition. Prejudices and moods are two such things that I must destroy by neglect (ref#7, May 20th, Sept 8th).

“Many of us prefer to stay at the threshold of the Christian life instead of going on to construct a soul in accordance with the new life God has put within” Oswald Chambers (ref#7, May 20th).

FATHER, I want to be responsible. With my will and the SPIRIT’s power I desire to refute arguments and theories and reasonings and every proud and lofty thing that sets itself up against Your true knowledge (2 Cor 10:5). For You know, FATHER, I’m in a fight all day long. Rouse me to reject comfort with its unwillingness to exercise the holy qualities You have placed in me.

ADORATION

Chord Progression: (C C/E F F7) (D/F# C/G G7 C)

THERE IS NO GOD LIKE MY GOD

GOD, You are the living GOD,

GOD, You endure forever;

Your kingdom shall never be destroyed,

and Your dominion shall be to the end.

You deliver and You rescue;

You work signs and wonders

in heaven and on the earth.

GOD, You are the living GOD (Dan 6:26-27).

No god is like my GOD,

descending from the heavens,

riding through the clouds

to come to my aid (Deut 33:26).

You, LORD GOD, keep faith forever,

You always do what You say—

keeping every promise,

always to be relied on (Ps 146:6).

You are slow to anger,

Huge in loyal love,

Forgiving iniquity and rebellion,

But never whitewashing sin (Num 14:18).

Your name and Your remembrance

are the desire of my soul,

I wait for You eagerly (Isa 26:8).

My spirit seeks You diligently (Isa 26:9).

PRELUDE TO PRAYER

Prayer Facts:

“Prayer is not so much an act as it is an attitude—an attitude of dependency, dependency upon God. Prayer is a confession of creature weakness, yea, of helplessness. Prayer is the acknowledgment of our need and the spreading of it before God” Arthur Pink (ref#152, p141).

Reasons for Waiting for GOD:

Because You are high yet have respect to the lowly, bringing them into fellowship with You, but the proud and haughty You know and recognize only at a distance (Ps 138:6), I will wait for you.

Because You take thought and plans for me when I am poor and needy (Ps 40:17), I will wait for You.

Because if I call on You, You will show me great and mighty things (Jer 33:3), I will wait for you.

Because You will bless those who reverently and worshipfully fear You (Ps 115:13), I will wait for You.

SUPPLICATION

GENERAL SICKNESS

[The majority of our prayers concern physical health. We all know someone who is dealing with the pain of sickness. Here is an opportunity to pray for them. Fill their name in the blanks.]

GOD’S WATCHFUL EYE

screen-shot-2017-02-21-at-2-43-41-pmFATHER, You do not forget the cry of ____ who is presently afflicted (Ps 9:12). Not only do You not forget but You set the boundaries of (his/her) tribulation. (He/She) will not “suffer too much or be relieved too late” Charles Spurgeon (ref#34, Aug 17th PM).

“The knife of the heavenly Surgeon never cuts deeper than is absolutely necessary. ‘He doth not afflict willingly nor grieve the children of men’” Charles Spurgeon (Lam 3:33) (ref#34, Aug 17th PM).

FATHER, deliver strength to ____ as (he/she) is tried and give (him/her) more power since (he/she) is weak (Isa 40:29).   Wise is (he/she) in the day of trouble who knows (his/her) “true source of strength and who fails not to pray” E.M. Bounds (ref#64, p47). “…God will supply every need…according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus” (Phil 4:19 ESV).

INAPPREHENSIBLE

screen-shot-2017-02-21-at-2-32-16-pm…FATHER, because You are from everlasting (Ps 103:17),

You are inapprehensible to me.

You cannot be fathomed, grasped—

assimilated or comprehended (ref#110, p680).

Because You inhabit eternity (Isa 57:15),

You are eternally ageless (ref#110, p24),

immutable—

never changing or varying (ref#110, p675).

Because You are high and lifted up (Isa 57:15),

You are inapproachable (ref#110, p681)—

beyond bounds—

unrestrained and excessive (ref#110, p482).

Because You dwell in a holy place

and also with him who is contrite (Isa 57:15),

You are undescribable (ref#110, p1456);

Your steadfast love is forever (Ps 103:17).

CONFESSION

I CANNOT DO WHAT YOU DO BUT YOU WILL NOT DO WHAT I CAN DO

screen-shot-2017-02-21-at-2-26-03-pm…FATHER, I am a member of Your household, through CHRIST.   I am no longer a stranger and an alien but a citizen of Your kingdom (Eph 2:18-19).

You have drawn me to Yourself, I am unable to draw myself to You. I cannot do what You do, but You will not do what I can do. You, FATHER, save and sanctify, but You will not give me good habits or make me walk aright. I, by faith, must work out the salvation You worked in (ref#7, May 10th). I am responsible; You will judge me according to Your justice.

You have given me the power to make personal decisions, yet You control the actions I choose. You have conferred responsibility on me for my thoughts, words, and deeds (ref#56, p1221, “God Reigns: Divine Sovereignty”) yet You are continually sovereign.

“Numerous biblical passages integrate the sovereignty of God and the moral responsibility of human beings without allowing the predeterminate will of God to be used as an excuse for moral evil (Esth 4:13-14; Joel 2:32; Matt 26:24-25; Acts 2:23)” The Reformation Study Bible (ref#56, p1159, [Ezek 14:9]).

FATHER, compel me not to think that because You have chosen me that I have no responsibility.

BE ATTENTIVE TO MY PRAYER

screen-shot-2017-02-21-at-2-21-14-pm“Your right hand, O Lord,

glorious in power,

your right hand, O Lord,

shatters the enemy” (Ex 15:6 ESV).

“The sum of your word is truth,

and…your righteous rules endures forever” (Ps 119:160 ESV).

“Wondrously show your steadfast love,…” (Ps 17:7 ESV).

“…You who save those who trust in You…” (Ps 17:7 NKJV).

“O Lord, our Lord,

how majestic is your name in all the earth” (Ps 8:9 ESV).

“Now, O my God, let your eyes be open

and your ears attentive to the prayer of this place” (2 Chron 6:40 ESV).

Prayer Facts:

“In prayer all things here below vanish, and nothing seems important but holiness of heart and the salvation of others” The Valley of Vision (ref#76, p146).

Reasons for Waiting for GOD:

Because You chose me, actually picked me out for Yourself as Your own in CHRIST before the foundations of the world (Eph 1:4), I will wait for You

Because You are to me a GOD of deliverance and salvation, setting me free (Ps 68:20), I will wait for You.

Because You bear my burdens and carry me day by day (Ps 68:19), I will wait for You.

Because You abide (live and remain) in me and Your love is brought to completion in me (1 John 4:12), I will wait for You.

SUPPLICATION

GENERAL TRIBULATION

[We all can think of a Christian sister or brother experiencing so much affliction they may not be able to pray for themselves. Here’s an opportunity to pray for them. Fill their name in the blanks.]

COMFORT OF THE SPIRIT IN AFFLICTION

screen-shot-2017-02-21-at-2-11-17-pm…FATHER, as ____ goes through life the consolations of Your HOLY SPIRIT are useful and necessary to (him/her). The SPIRIT comforts (his/her) in afflictions. These afflictions are a provision that You have made for (him/her) (Heb 12:5,6) (ref#35, p405).

____’s natural spirit will struggle with afflictions. (He/She) will try to relieve (himself/herself) by any means. In a display of pride (he/she) will despise the chastising affliction or in dejectedness of spirit, (he/she) will sink under the weight of (his/her) troubles (ref#35, p406).

How easily ____ will look for second causes (causes other than You, FATHER) in (his/her) affliction. (He/She) will try to fix it (himself/herself). Keep (him/her) FATHER, from this for (he/she) will lose all the benefits and advantages of this affliction that You have bestowed upon (him/her) (ref#35, p406).

FATHER, keep (him/her) also from sinking under the trial. If You do not teach (him/her) to consider deeply Your chastisements and dealings with (him/her), (he/she) will find the season of afflictions many as (he/she) goes through life (ref#35, p406).

Only the SPIRIT can manage (his/her) soul in affliction so that You, FATHER, have the glory of it and (he/she) be benefited. Affliction gives (him/her) a chance to glory in (his/her) tribulations (Rom 5:3). Send the SPIRIT, FATHER, to ____.

“…there is no management nor improvement of any affliction, but merely and solely by the consolations of the Holy Ghost” John Owen (ref#35, p407).
