Prayer Facts:

“Intercession means no more than to bring our brother into the presence of God, to see him under the Cross of Jesus as a poor human being and sinner in need of grace” Dietrich Bonhoeffer (ref#28, p86).

Reasons for Waiting for GOD:

Because Your greatness is so vast and deep it is unsearchable (Ps 145:3), I will wait for You.

Because You are mighty in power of understanding and heart (Job 36:5), I will wait for You.

Because honor and majesty are found in Your presence and strength and joy are found in Your sanctuary (1 Chron 16:27), I will wait for You.

Because You are near to all who call upon You in sincerity (Ps 145:18), I will wait for You.

Because You show Yourself strong for those whose hearts are completely Yours (2 Chron 16:9), I will wait for You.

GENERAL SICKNESS

[The majority of our prayers concern physical health. We all know someone who is dealing with the pain of sickness. Here is an opportunity to pray for them. Fill their name in the blanks.]

HEALING – FORETASTE TO THE ETERNAL KINGDOM

screen-shot-2017-01-02-at-4-10-47-pm…FATHER, the summary in all my prayers is true Christian maturity (2 Cor 13:9). Healing is not only a peek into Your spiritual kingdom, but a precursor of a greater miracle and that is the salvation You offer through CHRIST (ref#56, p1512). Healing gives opportunity to share an even greater miracle—Your salvation.

Jesus shows Your kingdom; no more sickness is part of Your kingdom; this is the reason JESUS heals. His method of ministry is mercy. His show of healing is to reverse the fall, not to reverse death. The purpose of healing is to bring Christlikeness and means always to produced holiness.

“God’s ultimate purpose is to secure the eternal health of the one who is sick. Whether the illness is a consequence of unconfessed sin or unhealed disease, the ultimate aim of the healing prayer is the spiritual security of the sick person whom God will ‘save’ and ‘raise up’” Bryan Chapell (ref#66, p59).

FATHER, I defer to You. Perform the perfect healing by raising ____ up to immortality with You, or instigate the imperfect healing of repairing ____’s mortal body on earth for a time (ref#66, p60). I acknowledge no medicine or miracle will benefit ____ apart from Your power (ref#66, p59).

THANKSGIVING

THE HOLY SPIRIT WITHDRAWING HIS SENSIBLE PRESENCE

screen-shot-2017-01-02-at-3-47-19-pm…FATHER, save me from being content with a little measure of the SPIRIT, thinking that is all I am expected to have.   So often I feel His absence and act using my own human spirit. Grow in me a desire for the power of His presence all the time (ref#76, p29).

“The Holy Spirit is no temporary gift; He abides with the saints. We have but to seek Him aright, and He will be found by us. He is jealous, but He is compassionate. If He leaves in anger, He returns in mercy. Gracious and tender, He does not weary of us, but He waits to be merciful still” Charles Spurgeon (ref#34, Feb 12th PM).

Through sin and worldliness I lose the consciousness of the SPIRIT’s presence. I don’t lose You, SPIRIT, but You are behind my conscious awareness (ref#30, p115).

For instance, no matter how eager or clever I am in sharing the Gospel, it is insufficient without Your presence.  What I need is to experience continual power to be obedient to You, SPIRIT, Who alone truly teaches me (ref#33, p86).

“God is determined to have His child as pure and clean and white as driven snow, and as long as there is disobedience in any point of His teaching, He will prevent none of the working of His spirit” Oswald Chambers (ref#7, June 30th).

FATHER, sensitize me to watch for the SPIRIT. In Him is the only way I can remain spiritual (ref#101, p28).

Reasons for Waiting for GOD:

Because with You are perfect wisdom and might and You alone have true understanding (Job 12:13), I will wait for You.

Because whatever You do, it endures forever (Eccl 3:14), I will wait for You.

Because You are a stronghold in the day of trouble (Nahum 1:7), I will wait for You.

Because Your communion and counsel are with me (Prov 3:32), I will wait for You.

Because You know and are fully acquainted with my way (Ps 1:6), I will wait for You.

Because You give wisdom and knowledge and joy (Eccl 2:26), I will wait for You.

Because Your mercy and kindness and steadfast love endure forever (Jer 33:11), I will wait for You.

REASONS FOR AFFLICTION – TO RECOGNIZE HOPE

screen-shot-2017-01-02-at-3-30-58-pm…FATHER, You say it is good for ____ that (he/she) is afflicted, that (he/she) might learn Your statutes (Ps 119:71). Your rules are righteous, and in faithfulness You have afflicted (him/her) (Ps 119:75).

If Your laws are not ____’s delight, (he/she) will perish in (his/her) affliction (Ps 119:92). LORD, keep ____ in Your grasp so (he/she) never forgets Your precepts, for in them You have given (him/her) life (Ps 119:93). Let Your steadfast love comfort ____ according to Your promise to (him/her) (Ps 119:76).

FATHER, though You slay ____, continue to provide for (his/her) strength to hope in You (Job 13:15). I know that because (he/she) is Yours, You will not let (him/her) fall away no matter how well or how badly (he/she) reacts to (his/her) situation or how horrific the situation. Because of (his/her) hope (he/she) will wait in silence for You (Ps 62:5). This is the way (he/she) will bring You honor.

FATHER, Your thundering breakers crash and crush ____ (Ps 42:7). Promise, FATHER, to love (him/her) all day and sing songs to (him/her) at night (Ps 42:8). Help (him/her) find the way to Your sacred mountain—to the place of Your presence (Ps 43:3). Allow (him/her) to enter the place of worship and meet face to face with You (Ps 43:4).

THE MESSAGE MUST BE PART OF ME

screen-shot-2017-01-02-at-3-17-25-pm“Christian work may be a means of evading the soul’s concentration on Jesus Christ” Oswald Chambers (ref#7, March 25th).

FATHER, I don’t want to be ambitious to win souls but to be ambitious to be accepted by You (ref#7, March 17th). I may be more of a hindrance to You than a help if my witness is just what CHRIST has done for me instead of presenting CHRIST from the vantage point of being His friend (ref#7, March 25th). Obedience is good but being the friend of the Bridegroom is more important.

Move me to maintain my relationship with CHRIST above all else, FATHER (ref#7, March 25th). No wonder “conquer” is a word used often in Scripture. It takes purposeful effort to develop a relationship with CHRIST. Obedience to witnessing can be accomplished too easily in my own strength and thus can’t even be classified as a battle conquered.

“The natural heart will do any amount of serving, but it takes the heart broken by conviction of sin, and baptized by the Holy Ghost, and crumpled into the purpose of God before the life becomes the sacrament of its message” Oswald Chambers (ref#7, March 10th).

A SHIELD ABOUT ME

O LORD, lead me in Your righteousness.

Make Your way straight before me (Ps 5:8)—

Your faithfulness is my shield (Ps 91:4).

 

In my members lies destruction itself.

By my own devices I will fall (Ps 5:9,10).

But, You bless me and surround me with favor

as with a shield of love (Ps 5:12).

 

You have given me the shield of Your salvation (2 Sam 22:36).

It is my glory and the lifter of my head

You answer and sustain me (Ps 3:3-5)

I bow in reverence to Thee (Ps 5:7)

 

You are my strength and my shield;

in You my heart trusts, and I am helped;

my heart exults, and

with my song I give thanks to You (Ps 28:7).
