MORNING PRAYER

screen-shot-2016-12-15-at-11-31-36-amGive ear to my words, O LORD,

consider my meditation.

Hearken unto the voice of my cry,

my King, and my God:

for unto thee will I pray.

My voice shalt thou hear in the morning,

O LORD; in the morning will I direct my prayer

unto thee, and will look up (Ps 5:1-3 KJV)

…I will come into Your house in the multitude of Your mercy;

In fear of You I will worship toward Your holy temple.

Lead me, O LORD, in Your righteousness…

Make Your way straight before my face (Ps 5:7-8 NKJV).

You have shown me what is good,

and what You require of me.

It’s to do justly, to love mercy,

and to walk humbly with Thee (Micah 6:8).

Prayer Facts:

“As prayer brings things to us which beget gratitude and thanksgiving, so praise and gratitude promote prayer, and induce more praying and better praying” E. M. Bounds (ref#64, p40).

Reasons for Waiting for GOD:

Because You existed before history began and are an ever-present, unchanging GOD (Isa 41:4), I will wait for You.

Because You call forth and guide the destinies of generations of nations (Isa 41:4), I will wait for You.

Because You give water without price from the fountain of Life (Rev 21:6), I will wait for You.

Because You put Your words in my mouth and have covered me with the shadow of Your hand (Isa 51:16), I will wait for You.

Because it is You who comforts me (Isa 51:12), I will wait for You.

Because You are in my midst and I am called by Your name (Jer 14:9), I will wait for You.

SICKNESS – LIFE THREATENING

[The majority of our prayers concern physical health. We all know someone who is dealing with a life-ending disease. Here is an opportunity to pray for them. Fill their name in the blanks.]

PRECIOUS IN THE SIGHT OF THE LORD IS THE DEATH OF HIS SAINTS

Screen Shot 2015-09-04 at 6.21.02 PM…FATHER, reveal to ____ why death is so precious to You. It is so important and not a light matter because it is connected with Your “great plans, and…there are great purposes to be accomplished by it” Barnes’ Notes (ref#16, [Ps 116:15]).

A Purtain believer said, “I am not afraid to look the king of terrors in the face, for I know I shall be drawn, not driven, out of the world” The Valley of Vision (ref#76, p205). Cause ____ to realize You, FATHER, have thought long and hard about such a great decision. The death of a saint is an act of great deliberation on Your part (ref#16, [Ps 116:15]).

Death is important because, (1) one more successful race is won, (2) “a new triumph of the work of redemption—showing the power and the value of that work” has occurred (ref#16, [Ps 116:15]), and (3) it is living proof of Your reality, better than any abstract argument” (ref#16, [Ps 116:15]). Keep ____ aware that You celebrate when a saint moves forever from earth to heaven as well as when a sinner trusts in JESUS (Luke 15:7).

IMMORTAL AND LIMITLESS

screen-shot-2016-12-07-at-12-00-30-pmBefore creation, from everlasting to everlasting (Ps 90:2)—

You are the limitless GOD—

unbounded and endless (ref#110, p784).

You have no boundary or completion (ref#110, p1456).

You are the only Sovereign (1 Tim 6:15).

You originate and exist in Yourself—

You are ingenerate (ref#110, p694)—

unending (ref#110, p1456).

You alone possess immortality

and dwell in inapproachable light (1 Tim 6:16).

You have no point of beginning (ref#110, p1456),

and are very great in degree and extent (ref#110, p1477).

To You be honor and eternal dominion (1 Tim 6:16),

for You extend beyond comprehension (ref#110, p692)

where no man has seen or can see (1 Tim 6:16).

You are vast and infinite (ref#110, p1477, 692).

CONFESSION

REVIVAL

screen-shot-2016-12-07-at-11-53-02-am…FATHER, “Sin is the only thing that hinders the revival of His (CHRIST’s) church” Roy Hession (ref#97, p62) (parenthesis mine). Show me my sin.

“Revival is just the life of the Lord Jesus poured into human hearts” Roy Hession (ref#97, p21). CHRIST, pour Your life into me.

Revival “…simply means new life, in hearts where the spiritual life has ebbed…the life of Jesus filling us and flowing through us” Roy Hession (ref#97, p68). FATHER, I confess my spiritual life ebbs; just a night’s sleep depletes me. I want filled again and again and again with JESUS.

“The willingness of Jesus to be broken for us is the all-compelling motive in our being broken too” Roy Hession (ref#97, p23). I desire to be broken as JESUS was. Bring to me the life JESUS endured from the time of His arrest to His crucifixion.

“Brokenness, however is but the beginning of Revival, Revival itself is being absolutely filled to overflowing with the Holy Spirit. All we have to do is to present our empty, broken self and let Him fill and keep filled” Roy Hession (ref#97, p27). Here I am, empty and broken ready to be filled.

“It will mean no plans, no time, no money, no pleasure of our own. It will mean a constant yielding to those around us” Roy Hession (ref#97, 25). I desire to constantly yield to those around me.

GOD, YOU ARE RIGHTEOUS ALTOGETHER

screen-shot-2016-12-07-at-11-47-34-am….FATHER, You are upright and good,

instructing me in my way (Ps 25:8).

You are abundant in mercy and

ready to forgive when I call (Ps 86:5).

O LORD, be gracious to me;

I wait for you.

Be my arm every morning,

my salvation in the time of trouble (Isa 33:2).

As a faithful Creator,

I commit my soul to You.

You made me and

You will never fail me (1 Pet 4:19).

There is nothing compared to You

inasmuch as there is none like You,

O LORD, You are great, and

Your name is great in might (Jer 10:6).

FATHER, You reign

You sit enthroned above the cherubim (Ps 99:1).

Your work is honorable and glorious,

and Your righteousness endures forever (Ps 111:3).

You are uncompromisingly righteous;

You will not do iniquity.

Every morning You bring Your justice to light;

You fail not (Zeph 3:5).

You are righteous in all Your ways

and kind in all Your works (Ps 145:17).

The sum of Your word is truth,

and every one of Your righteous rules endures forever (Ps 119:160).

PRELUDE TO PRAYER

Prayer Facts:

“God has spoken to us, let us speak to God—either to set our seal that God is true and faithful to His promise, or to confess the sin of which the Spirit of God has convinced us, or to acknowledge the mercy which God’s providence has given, or to express assent to the great truths which God the Holy Ghost has opened to our understanding” Charles Spurgeon (ref#34, Feb 5th PM).

Reasons for Waiting for GOD:

Because You are an all-wise, all-powerful, and ever-present GOD (Jer 42:11), I will wait for You.

Because riches and honor are with You, as well as enduring wealth and righteousness (Prov 8:18), I will wait for You.

Because there is nothing too hard for You (Jer 32:27), I will wait for You.

Because You broke my yoke and burst my bonds so that I might serve You (Jer 2:20), I will wait for You.

Because You see my afflictions and hear my cry, knowing well my sorrows, sufferings, and trials (Ex 3:7), I will wait for You.

Because Your eyes are open and Your ears attentive to prayer (2 Chron 7:15), I will wait for You.

Because by Your invitation I can inquire of You (Isa 65:10), I will wait for You.

GENERAL TRIBULATION

[We all can think of a Christian sister or brother experiencing so much affliction they may not be able to pray for themselves. Here’s an opportunity to pray for them. Fill their name in the blanks.]

MADE PERFECT BY SUFFERING

screen-shot-2016-12-07-at-11-22-14-am…FATHER, persevere with ____ as You teach (him/her) why suffering is necessary to procure (his/her) obedience to You. You brought situations that made Your Son suffer saying through those unpleasant circumstances He learned obedience (Heb 5:8).

CHRIST also suffered on ____’s behalf leaving behind for (him/her) a model to imitate. I pray that by close application (he/she) might follow in His Savior’s footprints (1 Pet 2:21).

“…there is one very comforting thought in the fact of Christ’s ‘being made perfect through suffering’—it is, that He can have complete sympathy with us. ‘He is not an high priest that cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities.’ In this sympathy of Christ we find a sustaining power” Charles Spurgeon (ref#34, March 29th AM).

CHRIST was “made perfect” by suffering (Heb 5:9). And ____ must suffer also, so (he/she) might identify with Him (2 Tim 2:12). Affliction deflates the human ego. It is in opposition to what ____ naturally wants. In ____’s humanness (he/she) wants everything that inflates (his/her) ego. (He/She) would love to present (himself/herself) to You beautiful and fit for Your service but that attitude is only (his/her) old fleshly nature wanting to be righteous. Instead, the affliction You bring causes wounds and displays (his/her) weaknesses. Wounds take away (his/her) covering so dear to (him/her)—the veil of (his/her) own righteousness (ref#128, p457).

FATHER, plant the truth of being made perfect by suffering deep within ____ . Anchor (him/her) so (he/she) will not be moved by afflictions for (he/she) is destined for them (1 Thes 3:3). “Thinkest thou to espouse a God, covered with wounds, torn with nails and despoiled of everything without being treated in the same manner” Madame Guyon (ref#128, p457)? Encourage ____ LORD, with all (his/her) tribulations for in them (he/she) is more the beautiful to You.

CONFESSION

HEAR ME, FATHER

screen-shot-2016-12-07-at-11-07-20-am…GOD OF ALL, hear my voice when I call, answer me, Your face I will seek (Ps 27:7-8). I venture to speak to You, although I am but dust and ashes (Gen 18:27). O GOD, listen to my prayer (Ps 54:2).

FATHER, lift me above myself. Make me overflow with the hope of the power of Your HOLY SPIRIT (Rm 15:13). Increase my faith so that I perceive CHRIST living in my heart (Eph 3:16-17). Contrast the self-love that I have been after by giving me roots and foundations in real love (Eph 3:17).

How I desire understanding (2 Tim 2:7). May I become content with nothing but CHRIST, Himself, for in Him lay all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge (Col 2:2-3).

LORD, I need wisdom; I ask You for it. Turn my doubt into belief (James 1:6). Give discernment to me, then I will understand Your decrees (Ps 119:125). You say, “The fear of the LORD is true wisdom and to forsake evil is real understanding.” (Job 28:28). I forsake evil; give me true wisdom. I desire to be strong in my inner self (Eph 3:16). Oh, for true Christian maturity (2 Cor 13:9).
